Mountain biking is a great way to get in touch with nature. Riding your bike in the woods takes skills and an appropriate bicycle.

Mountain bikes have very wide tires with lots of tread to make it easier to go uphill in loose dirt or ride through mud and over trees and rocks. Most mountain bikes have at least a front fork shock and many come with rear shocks too. Dual suspension isn’t a requirement in Kansas City, but makes for a more comfortable ride in places like Colorado.

Mountain biking usually occurs in the mountains or woods; far away from QTs or other sources of water and food. Riders should go prepared with lots of water and something to eat. Carrying your cell phone is also a good idea—but beware not all areas have coverage.
